This treatment is ideal for people experiencing primary focal hyperhidrosis - characterised by excessive sweating in specific areas without an underlying medical cause.
It's particularly beneficial for those who have:
- Persistent sweating in the armpits (axillary), palms (palmar), soles (plantar), or face (craniofacial)
- Episodes occurring at least once a week
- Sweating that interferes with daily activities or causes emotional distress
- Symptoms that began before the age of 25
- Family history of similar sweating issues

Excessive sweating injectables treat hyperhidrosis by blocking the nerve pathways that stimulate sweat production. When injected into areas like the underarms, hands or feet, treatment targets the eccrine sweat glands responsible for perspiration and work by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that signals these glands to produce sweat. By preventing this signal, the aim is to reduce or halt excessive sweating in the treated area. Results typically begin within a few days and may last for around three to six months, depending on the individual patient.

Injections to manage hyperhidrosis are usually well tolerated and not associated with significant discomfort, especially when effective pain relief is used for more senstive areas. Furthermore, the anticipated result of reduced excessive sweating tends to outweigh any temporary, minor discomfort.
The armpits involve a small number of injections and these are often described as feeling similar to mosquito bites. Equally, treatment for the face is well tolerated, with some patients experiencing no pain or discomfort at all.
A topical numbing cream is normally used or, for more sensitive areas such as the hands or feet, Dr Paris may discuss a nerve block to reduce any discomfort (when a fine needle is used to deliver local anesthetic close to the targeted nerve).

You would typically notice the effects of treatment - that is, a notable reduction in sweating - at around 2 weeks after treatment. These results may last up to 9 - 12 months, at which time you may wish to repeat the procedure.
